What can an Untreated Message do to your business?

August 30, 2021

This post is a part of a series by Oracle Amethyst, Jess’s alter ego and psychic name (according to all-knowing Pinterest, of course). In this series, Jess points out what might be standing in between you and GREAT messaging that actually works for your business. Then, with her all-seeing-eye, she predicts what your future in business will look like if you let those sticking points continue to win.

“I just wish I could find my voice.”

You already have one. Use it.

“I just struggle figuring out what to write.”

Write about your offer. End game.

“I wish I could be consistent, like you; I’m just not a writer.”

Consistency comes from definition + repetition… not from skill.

Now, these hesitations feel like easy ones for me to answer, but that doesn’t change the fact that so many entrepreneurs struggle to establish their overall messaging.

“Messaging” is basically what you do + who you do it for + what you have to say about the world to the people you want to help. (To put it really simply.) Another way to attack it: It’s what you say and how you say it.

BUT, when you started your business so you could do more of what you love, I’m gonna take a guess and say “English class” wasn’t on that list.

I’m here to tell you, friend, you have what it takes to define a SUPER-COMPELLING message, even if you’ve got zero writing genius. AND, you’ve got what it takes to utilize that message in a way that makes everything you write even easier (a.k.a. Saving you time + brain space).

If you’re still thinking, “How do I really know if I struggle with my Overall Messaging?” this post is for you.

Today I’m defining three different sticking points when it comes to Overall Messaging for online business owners, and I (Oracle Amethyst psychic, reporting for duty) will show you your business fortune if you continue to let those sticking points take over.

Ready to see your future, my darling?

Common Overall Messaging Sticking Points

Sticking Point 1: You feel like you’re lacking consistency. You’re not sure that people really know what you stand for or what you can really do for them.

Sticking Point 2: You struggle with mastering the art of telling your story (in a way that it connects and converts).

Sticking Point 3: You’re not totally sold on who your ideal client is, and it’s keeping you from “speaking to” anyone.

Your Business Fortune (via Oracle Amethyst)

My darling, here’s what I see in your future:

If you continue to let your foundational message go undefined or unREfined, you may continue to find yourself floundering to “get started” when it’s time to create content. You may find that you struggle to know what to write, or what angle to take on a message you need to get out to the masses.

You’ll continue to create copy that is largely “informational” instead of “transformational” which will result in your people saying, “Oh, that’s interesting” in their heads rather than “OMG, I NEED THIS NOW.” You might even struggle with random topic syndrome. This is a phenomenon that occurs when experts end up creating super generalized content that has little-to-nothing to do with their actual expertise. As a result, you’ll cast too wide of a net, which means your business will gain a bunch of lookie-loos instead of super-pumped-to-get-started customers + clients.

You’ll continue to talk to the void about a variety of topics, coming up on crickets instead of conversions.

But what if instead…

Your OTHER (possible) future:

If you choose to establish a foundational message that harnesses the magic of your business and speaks to the exact-right-fit people who you can help the most, you’ll stand out among the crowd of others who technically “do what you do.” You’ll get consistent DMs that say, “I needed help with X, and I knew right away to come to you” or “I saw this and thought of you, because I know that’s what you stand for.” People will be clear on what you do and who you’re for because you consistently show up with copy and content that aligns with that purpose instead of coming up with content for content’s sake. You’ll understand how your story can inspire relatability and safety for your audience in a way that establishes trust and captures attention. You’ll feel like you can sit down and write because you have ideas and you know what you need to repeat over and over to be able to help people with what you do best.

Now, if that POSSIBLE future had you saying HECK YEAHHHHH, THAT’S WHAT I WANT, then it’s time to book a Messaging Power Hour with me (Jess, your fave copywriter, not Oracle Amethyst) this fall!
