Honesty Hour: I've had a good cry EVERY day this week.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ It's been a total roller coaster.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ On one hand, I'm SUPER THANKFUL that my business was literally MADE for times like this—need has increased, and I'm SO HERE FOR YOU GUYS.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ But, sometimes? When my defenses are low, I'm tapped out, and I'm not sure if what I have to give is enough, I think, "Hey, God? You SURE you wanna trust me with all this?"⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Despite the Daily Cry situation, there are a few things I've been prioritizing to stay sane, so that I'm healthy enough to give value on the daily.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 1 | Making decisions ahead of time.⁠⠀ I've been using the calendar system this week that @macymcneely taught me, and even though I have PERFECTLY executed, it's made it to where ALL I have to do is show up and execute (instead of deciding what I'm gonna do first).⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 2 | Scheduling workouts.⁠⠀ Yes, I workout in my garage. Yes, I'm still scheduling it. It raises it to the priority level of all my other meetings. Magic.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 3 | Staying hydrated.⁠⠀ Okay, not tryin' to be your mom here, but DRINK MORE WATER. When we stay hydrated we're better equipped cognitively, and from an energy standpoint, to tackle the day.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 4 | Prioritizing learning.⁠⠀ You know what I turn to when things feel out of control? Learning. Am I a nerd? Totally. But, this week I've been focused on researching, diving deep, and applying what I've learned to get better at my craft and get my mind right. That's NEVER wasted, friends.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ These may seem like small things, but they're making a BIG DIFFERENCE for me. What are you prioritizing to maintain sanity?


Last week? I was focused on the first one. This week? I made an intentional heart change to focus on the second. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I thought I'd share so you can shift your mindset, too!⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Which do you think you've fallen into over the past couple weeks?


IDK about you guys, but my soul needs a little BREAK this weekend.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Here's your permission slip:⁠⠀ You don't need to do any more of those self-quarantine-self-care-to-do-list-for-your-best-life-thingies.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Your best life is in front of you, if you'd just set your phone down for a sec and soak it all in.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Wanna do that with me? 3 steps: Phone down, eyes up, and be present.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Don't forget to that this season might be one you're wishing away, but this is what HISTORY is made of. Yesterday was A HIGHLIGHT of this whole business journey for me. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 544 of you signed up to learn from me, and around 200 of you showed up live during a moment in all of our lives where time is VALUABLE. I don't take that lightly.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ This makes me think about how I got here.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ “Your job isn’t to connect, it’s to get RESULTS.”⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I still can’t believe an administrator said this in my 1st yr of teaching.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I said, “I just wish I could figure out how to connect with these kids.”⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ That day, I arrived at school at 5:30 a.m. + made it all the way to 4:30 p.m. for this meeting. After she left my room, I plopped on the floor and cried.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Long story short, I didn’t listen to a word she said. It served me well. I knew my intentions were on the right track. I didn’t want to teach in a world where connection with my students—a basic human desire—WASN’T important.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Here’s the thing I knew: Metrics change EXPONENTIALLY (almost unexplainably) when we connect before we convert.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I went on to see test scores rise and first books EVER read by high school seniors, but they were a FRINGE benefit to the baby showers I was invited to, and football game teacher nights I was a part of.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Now, in the creative business world, my clients operate outside of “industry standard” conversion rates because we spend time making sure we’re speaking to real humans instead of turning marketing tricks on the online corner.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I know you. Business is about more than conversion for you.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Can I tell you the ONE thing that changed the game for me in teaching? The ONE lesson I took to the creative marketing world to serve hundreds of clients/students in upping their word game?⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ The ONLY Lesson You Need to Learn: This is NOT about you.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ It’s about finding that magical place where exactly who you are meets exactly who they need.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ It’s about knowing that anyone can do what you do, but no one can do it like you.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Don’t believe the lie that online biz is more about HUSTLE than HUMANS.⁠⠀ ⁠ It is our job to connect, cause that’s when transformations happen.⁠⠀ Conversion matters, but it matters more when it’s built on a foundation of connection.


Sometimes I make things a WHOLE heckuva lot harder than they need to be. You too?⁠ 👏🏼⁠ I'm trying to remember the basics and get back to the core of what it means to be kind—ask, then deliver.⁠ 👊🏼⁠ And, I think now is an amazing time as a business owner to take stock of how you're delivering. Is it answering what your people have asked you for? Or are you serving up something YOU THINK they need without taking the time to go deep with the actual humans you WANT to serve?⁠ 🤷🏼‍♀️⁠ Rule ONE of owning a business? Ask better questions.⁠ 💃🏼⁠ What better time to start than now?⁠ Share if you think we should KEEP IT SIMPLE and just SERVE!


WHAT IF THIS WAS YOUR TURNING POINT?⁠⠀ ✨⁠⠀ I spent the weekend with my mom, sister, aunts, and my grandma. One of the questions we all went around and answered was...⁠⠀ What was a moment that changed the course of your life?⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ And as I sat and journaled this morning about what YOU all need from me, that felt like the best thing I could give.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ THIS could be the moment that changes everything for you, whether it's learning to diversify in your business and adapt, or whether it's just needing a freakin' PANDEMIC to remember what your actual priorities are.⁠⠀ 🙈⁠⠀ Here's what I want you to know: ⁠⠀ You have EVERYTHING YOU NEED to grow... even now.⁠⠀ You have what it takes to figure things out.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ We've all been given the gift of a normalcy SHAKE UP, and when things change, WE have to change. And I truly believe that's when our creativity starts to kick into high gear, and we have the opportunity to grow our faith and our fierce determination to make something AMAZING happen.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Keep heart, friends. This season will end, but it could also change EVERYTHING for you. Keep your eyes open for the unexpected 💛


I always say, “I take a connection approach to conversion copy,” but very few people know WHY.⁠⠀ 🤷🏼‍♀️⁠⠀ It’s not to stick out in the marketplace or have a nice alliteration in my tagline.⁠⠀ ✖️⁠⠀ It’s because I learned the (freakin’) hard way that connection has to come first before you can ever hope to get someone to take action.⁠⠀ 🚀⁠⠀ Because, as humans, we don’t wanna be FIXED, right? We don’t want our “pain points” thrown in our face after we respond to a survey just to turn into another conversion number.⁠⠀ 👏🏼⁠⠀ We just want someone to see us where we are, understand why we might be stuck, and ONLY THEN offer a path to what we truly want.⁠⠀ 💃🏼⁠⠀ Without that connection part? ⁠⠀ You’ll be nothing more than another shout in the mind-numbing online noise—⁠⠀ or a 22-year-old teacher with sweaty armpits pouring her heart out as her first ever high school students do their literal makeup in the front row.⁠⠀ 🤯⁠⠀ Ahem… if you haven't heard my story...more on that later.⁠⠀ 😂⁠⠀ So, what do you feel like you’re missing when it comes to writing stuff that ACTUALLY connects?⁠⠀ 🤷🏼‍♀️⁠⠀ I asked a biz owner this in my DMs the other day.⁠⠀ 💛⁠⠀ Her answer? Creativity, writing prowess, enough money in her business to hire a pro copywriter.⁠⠀ 🙈⁠⠀ Well, lucky for you, you don’t really need any of those things to write copy that connects.⁠⠀ 👊🏼⁠⠀ UM, EXCUSE ME? Count 'em—7 EMAILS in my Monday inbox were lamenting feeling "salesy" in their business.⁠⠀ 🤯⁠⠀ The fact that these emails were unprompted from random biz owners in my community reminds me just how dang prevalent this fear and roadblock is.⁠⠀ 🙈⁠⠀ SOME days I have the energy to soap box—today isn't one of 'em. So I'll just leave you with this ^^^ straight up kick in the pants.⁠⠀ 💃🏼⁠⠀ REMEMBER: We get to do this work, and our job is to change as many lives as we can with what we love most.⁠⠀ ✨⁠⠀ If you're wasting your energy WORRYING about being salesy... you won't do it. Unpopular Opinion: Your audience isn't full of test subjects, it's full of HUMANS.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I'm gonna make a BOLD STATEMENT, HERE: I don't think you need another conversion strategy.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Friend, you were made for MORE than just getting people to the YES.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Conversion is just ONE action in the cycle of starting a transformation. Is it important? Absolutely. Does the work stop (or even start) there? Heck to the no.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ It's about time we stop treating our audience as "avatars" who all go by the name of Allison, and who like the farmer's market and prefer beach over mountains, ya know?⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Let's commit to diving DEEP, one by one.
